Picked up 'Cats of New York' and noticed something odd in the photos

I grabbed a used copy of 'Cats of New York' by Tammy Vitale last week at a thrift store in Pittsburgh. The first section shows city strays from 2005, but the later pages from 2015 have way more cats in storefronts and cafés. Did the cat café trend really shift how and where these cats were photographed that fast? Anyone else notice a before-and-after split in a cat book like this?

Picked up a copy myself and honestly got distracted by something totally different. That one photo on page 47 where the cat is sitting on a fire hydrant next to a sign for Katz's Deli - I stared at that for like ten minutes trying to figure out if it was the same hydrant from the 2005 shots. Ngl, I spent more time looking at the backgrounds than the actual cats. My buddy who's a photographer said the café thing probably just made the cats easier to find since they weren't ducking into alleys all the time.

Whoa, honestly that's a really good point about the backgrounds. I used to think the whole cat cafe thing was just a silly gimmick to sell more books but now I get it. It's like the photographer finally had enough light and time to frame the shots properly instead of chasing shadows. Your buddy's take makes total sense.
