My friend claimed cat coffee table books are just for people who don't read

After she said that at dinner last Saturday, I spent like 10 minutes defending why Japanese street cat photography books hit different, so does anyone else have a go-to book they use to change someone's mind about them being legit art?

My wife has that one "Cats of Tokyo" book on our coffee table. The photos are insane, the composition is better than half the art hanging in galleries. Your friend probably just saw one bad book with blurry cat pics.

Oh come on, you're telling me a book of cat photos is better than actual art in galleries? That's a stretch and a half. Most of those cat books are just cute shots with good lighting, not real composition or meaning. Half the time the photographer is just lucky the cat sat still for a second. Galleries have artists who spend years learning technique and theory. A cat book is for coffee tables, not museums. I bet if you put that book next to real gallery work side by side, the cats would look like amateur hour. Your wife probably just likes it because it's cats, not because it's good art.
