My cat art book totally changed how I see coffee table books
I picked up this book called "Cats in the City" from a thrift store for $4 last weekend. It's full of photos of stray cats in Tokyo alleys and shops, and I thought it'd be a funny gag gift. But my friends actually fight over who gets to flip through it when they visit, and I've learned so much about cat behavior from the captions. Anyone else find a cat book that surprised you like that?

And @troy977 is right, that's exactly how it goes with those city cats... it's kind of wild how we think of them as strays but they've basically got their own little support network going on. Makes you wonder how many other things we just assume are one way when there's actually a whole system underneath.

Wait a second here. Those stray cats in Tokyo aren't just random strays you know. A LOT of them are actually well fed and cared for by local shopkeepers and residents, and the captions in that book probably mention that. I have a friend who lived in Tokyo for two years and she told me those "stray" cats have like four different families feeding them every day. It's a whole community thing with people leaving out food and little beds for them even though nobody technically owns them.
