I used to judge cat books by the cover at my aunt's place in Boise, now I flip to page 30 first
Two years ago I would grab any cat book with a cute cover and buy it on the spot, which is how I ended up with 14 books where the cat photos stop after chapter one. Last month at a used shop in Boise I started opening each one to page 30 to see if the good pictures keep going, and 9 out of 10 failed the test. My aunt called it the page 30 trick and now she does it too. So far it saved me about $60 on books that were just filler after the intro. Does anyone else have a dumb little test like this before buying a cat book?
Man, $60 saved sounds nice but is page 30 really the make or break? A lot of cat books front load the good shots to hook you, then the back half is text and filler anyway. Feel like you'd miss some decent ones that way, but hey if it works for you and your aunt, whatever.
