I used to see head butts as just random bumps for attention. Now I read it's how cats share scent and show trust. Is this rubbing mostly about marking or a real greeting?
My cat Buster bumps my hand constantly. All that scent sharing stuff sounds nice, but he does it most when he wants treats. Could be he's just marking his favorite human. Sometimes I wonder if we make too big a deal out of cat behavior. It's probably both marking and a habit, not some deep trust thing.
My old cat used to headbutt the fridge door with the same level of feeling. I've definitely spent more time reading into that than he ever spent thinking about doing it.
