The popular 'slow blink' trick never worked on my cat, here's what actually did

Everyone says to slow blink at your cat to show trust, but my tabby Moxie just stared at me like I was broken. After 6 months of getting nowhere, I tried yawning in front of her instead. Slight exaggerated yawns, every time I came near her food bowl. She started relaxing and rubbing on my legs within 3 days. Has anyone else found a weird substitute that worked better than the standard advice?

That yawn trick is genius, actually makes sense since yawning is contagious between bonded animals. Definitely going to try this with my skittish rescue.

Honestly, I had a cat that would just walk away if I tried the slow blink thing too. What actually worked for me was pretending to eat her dry food out of my hand like it was the best thing ever, she got super curious and started trusting me way faster.
