The one mistake everyone makes with cat water fountains
I see so many people posting about how their cat ignores the water fountain or keeps pawing at it. I did the same thing for like 6 months. Turns out most of us are putting them too close to the food bowl. Cats don't like drinking near where they eat, it's a survival instinct from wild days. Moved mine to the other side of the living room about 8 feet from the food bowl and my tabby started using it 3 times as much within a week. Anyone else notice this make a difference?

Mate that is bang on. Moved my cats fountain about 5 feet from their food bowls and they actually started using it like normal cats instead of just staring at it. Took me way too long to figure out they want their water source separate from their dinner spot lol. The instinct thing makes total sense when you think about it. I swear cats are basically tiny grumpy survivalists in fluffy bodies.

You know what, Paul, I used to think that was just one of those old wives' tales people pass around. I had my cats' water fountain right next to their food bowls for years, and they never seemed to mind. But then my older cat started getting kidney issues, and the vet asked me where I kept the water. I moved it across the room after that conversation, and it was like flipping a switch. Both cats started drinking way more, and it really opened my eyes to how those little instincts matter, even for spoiled house cats. Makes you wonder what else we're doing wrong without even realizing it.
