That $60 heated cat bed that my cat won't touch

I spent $60 on a self-warming cat bed from PetSmart back in January, figuring my 12-year-old tabby would love it during the cold months. She sniffed it once and now prefers the cardboard box from a holiday delivery instead. Has anyone else had a cat ignore a pricey bed they bought with good intentions?

Nah, I gotta disagree with the advice here. You're basically saying the cat's gonna love a $60 bed just because it smells like you, but my cat actively avoids anything that smells like me including my favorite hoodie. Some cats just have weird taste and no amount of laundry tricks will change that. The box thing is also a stretch, my cat slept in a torn Amazon box for two months straight and then randomly switched to sitting on a pile of dirty towels. Maybe we need to accept that cats are just chaotic little creatures who don't care about our spending habits.

Did you try wrapping the box in the bed's fabric?

Sniffed it once" is the giveaway, cats judge texture not warmth. Try laying a piece of your worn laundry on top of the bed, they like things that smell like you.
