That $200 automatic litter box was a total scam for my skittish cat

I dropped $200 on a Litter-Robot clone last month and my cat won't even go near it. She's been holding her pee for 12 hours at a time cause she hates the noise. Now I'm stuck with this huge plastic thing taking up space in my laundry room. Has anyone else had a cat that refuses to use automated boxes?

My sister has the exact same Litter-Robot 4 and her rescue cat went through a full 2 week adjustment period. She put the unplugged box in the living room first with some of the cat's used litter inside so she could sniff around without the motor scaring her. Then she wrapped a thick towel around it to muffle the sound and only ran it on the quiet mode when the cat was in another room. It took about 10 days but now the cat actually sleeps on top of it. Maybe try unplugging it for a week and just let your cat get comfortable with the shape and size first.
