Overheard a vet tech say something about cat food bowls that got me thinking...
She said putting water and food bowls right next to each other can make cats drink less because their instinct tells them the water might be contaminated. My cat was always leaving half his water - moved the bowl 3 feet away and he's actually lapping it up now. Anyone else's cat weird about bowl placement?

Oh man, that pawing thing is hilarious. My cat does that too and I always joke shes trying to dig a grave for her bowl. But for real, moving the water bowl changed everything here.
I literally just shifted it like 2 feet away from her food and she started chugging water like she just crossed the Sahara. Its wild how picky they are about stupid stuff.
Guess cats are basically tiny furry engineers who demand perfect bowl positioning or theyll just die of thirst out of spite.
That vet tech was onto something though. Now I just have 2 random bowls in my kitchen like a weirdo.

My cat used to paw at the floor around her bowls like she was trying to bury something... never figured out if that was a good sign or bad.

Is the pawing thing like her trying to cover up a kill or something? My cat does it too, but only when she's annoyed with the food. I've heard it's either a "save this for later" instinct or just a "this bowl is in the wrong spot" protest. Either way, it's not bad, just them being fussy little hunters. Have you tried scooting the bowl around to see if she stops?
