My vet in Tulsa told me to ignore my cat's 4am yowling for 2 weeks, and she was right
When my 9 year old tabby started screaming at 4am every night, my vet said to set an alarm, get up, and not feed or play with her, just go back to bed, and warned it would get worse before better. The first 3 nights were brutal, she yelled louder and knocked stuff off the dresser, but by night 6 she went quiet and now she sleeps through till my 6am alarm. Has anyone else had a cat where the crying was just a habit and not a real need like hunger or a litter box issue?
Mine did the exact same thing around age 7 and the vet told me the same, ignore her and she will quit. Took about a week of her yowling at my door and scratching the frame, but once she figured out nobody was coming, she stopped cold. Cats are smart and they train us way faster than we train them, so breaking that habit is really the only thing that works.
