My cat spent 4 months guarding an empty box like it was a national treasure

I brought home a new vacuum and left the box in the living room for a day. My orange tabby Milo decided that box was HIS and hissed at me every time I walked near it. I thought he'd lose interest after a week but nope, he sat in it for 4 months straight. Anyone else's cat get weirdly attached to random cardboard for no reason at all?

Drove out to my buddy's place last week and he pointed at this beat-up Amazon box his cat has been sleeping in for two years. Refuses to touch any of the fancy beds we bought him but that box is apparently five-star accommodation.

I mean, yeah, cats do the box thing but calling it "five-star accommodation" feels like a stretch. My cat spent a whole month sleeping on a crinkled paper bag I left on the floor once, but I didn't frame it as some luxury hotel situation. He just liked the crinkle sound when he rolled over, I guess. Your buddy probably just didn't want to admit he wasted money on fancy beds, so he turned the box into a whole story. Cats are weird, sure, but let's not pretend they're making thoughtful choices about interior design.
