My cat spent 20 minutes staring at a blank wall before sprinting across the apartment like a demon

Last Tuesday I was sitting on the couch in my living room when my cat suddenly froze, stared at the corner near the bookshelf for a solid 20 minutes with her pupils totally dilated, then bolted down the hallway at full speed and slid into the bathroom door, has anyone else dealt with weird pre-zoom stare sessions?

That blank wall stare is classic cat hunting mode. Your cat might be tracking a tiny bug or hearing something inside the wall like a mouse. My own cat does that same freeze and dash routine at least twice a week, usually right before he gets a burst of energy and tears around the house. It's probably just their predator instincts kicking in with no real prey around. You're not alone in this one.
