I finally got my cat to ride in the car without yowling the whole time
We had to drive to the vet in Portland, which is about 20 minutes away, and I tried putting her carrier on the floor in the back instead of the seat. She just sat there quietly and looked out the window the entire trip. Is the floor spot less scary because it doesn't move as much, or was I just lucky this time?

So you put the carrier on the floor? That reminds me of when my old cat hated the car until I started covering her crate with a towel, like making a little cave. She still complained but way less. Maybe the floor thing works for the same reason, it just feels more closed in and safe.

Read somewhere that putting the carrier on the floor works because it's a more stable surface. Less sway and vibration than a seat, especially in a moving car. My friend's dog used to shake in his crate on the backseat, but putting it in the footwell stopped the whining. Might be the same idea with your cat, less motion sickness.

My cousin's rabbit would only travel in a cardboard box on the floor. The plastic carrier on the seat was a no-go, total panic. But a simple box in the footwell, he just sat there quiet as anything. Maybe it's the lack of clear plastic walls, makes them feel hidden.
