Don't fall for those fancy 'interactive' cat toys that move on their own

I spent $60 on a robotic laser toy that my cat ignored completely after day one, and now it just sits in my closet collecting dust like a monument to my bad choices.

Did you try putting a cardboard box over it? My cats ignored every expensive toy I bought but went crazy for a $2 box with a string hanging out.

Picked up an old Amazon box, cut a few holes in it, and my cat spent three straight days parked inside like it was a fortress. @faithj10 you're spot on about the string trick too. I think the real secret is boredom - cats like things that change or surprise them, so a box you move around the room every few days keeps their interest way longer than a toy that just sits there. I actually started rotating a few different boxes around the house and my cat treats each one like a brand new discovery.
