Covered my cat's water bowl with a plate for 3 days after reading cats hate still water.
My cat drank twice as much from a cheap ceramic bowl I refill every morning than from a fancy $40 fountain I bought last year so maybe the whole moving water obsession is just marketing hype, anyone else's cat prefer the boring old bowl?

Yeah so I actually read this whole article from some vet behaviorist that said cats don't really care about moving water as much as people think, they just prefer water that's away from their food bowl and in a spot where they feel safe. The article mentioned that ceramic bowls are actually better than plastic because plastic holds onto smells that can put cats off drinking. I tried moving my cat's ceramic bowl to the other side of the room from her food dish and she started drinking way more than when I had the fountain right next to her kibble. Maybe the whole fountain thing is just a way for companies to sell us expensive plastic gadgets when cats just want a clean, wide bowl in a quiet corner.

My buddy tried the same thing and his cat just sat there staring at the plate like it was a personal insult. He caved after two hours and took the plate off.
