Tried rolling my jeans instead of folding them and my backpack shrunk by half

I had a 4 day trip to Chicago last month and was cramming everything into my usual carry-on. I always folded my jeans flat but saw a YouTube video about rolling them tight like a burrito. So I rolled two pairs of jeans and they took up maybe half the space of one folded pair. Has anyone else had luck with rolling vs folding for bulky clothes?

So you're saying the burrito roll magically compresses denim fibers? I've got a pair of raw selvage jeans that took me months to break in and rolling them tight would just crease the hell out of them in weird places. Folding lets you stack them flat without any weird pressure points or wrinkles that look like you slept in them. Plus my backpack never shrinks because I'm not trying to shove rolled up pants in like a clown car experiment.

My buddy Dave from work tried the burrito roll on his vintage Levi's 501s last year... ended up with this weird permanent crease right across the back of the knee that never came out even after washing. He was so mad he just sat there staring at them on his couch for like twenty minutes. @the_kim you're spot on about the pressure points thing, denim needs to breathe not get twisted into a pretzel. Dave still brings it up every time someone mentions packing tips, says next time he'll just fold them flat and deal with the extra space.
