The day I learned rolling clothes is actually a myth

I've been rolling my t-shirts for years to save space in my carry-on. Last month at JFK, I watched this dude pack the same amount of stuff in a smaller bag by folding everything flat. He told me rolling creates air pockets between the rolls and you lose like 20% of your space. Anyone else try folding flat instead of rolling and see a difference?

Did you actually measure it both ways to see the difference?

Why would I bother measuring it both ways? That's just wasting time. If the instructions say to do it one way, I'm doing it that way and moving on. People get way too hung up on trying things different ways just to see if there's a .01% difference. I've been building things for years and I can tell you from experience that the manufacturer put those steps in for a reason. You're over here comparing measurements and I'm over here finishing the job in half the time.
