Rolled my packing cubes for a 10-day trip to Denver, then dumped them for flat layering

After 3 trips with rolled cubes I kept digging to the bottom for one shirt, so switched to flat stack method and now my 22-inch bag fits 4 extra pairs of socks, has anyone else noticed rolling only works if you pack by outfit?
