Remembering when packing cubes weren't a thing

I've been doing carry-on only since 2009, back when I rolled everything into gallon ziploc bags because that's all we had. Lately I see people on here stuffing 8 cubes into a bag that's clearly too full, then wondering why their clothes come out wrinkled. Am I the only one who thinks packing cubes are getting treated like magic bullet solutions instead of just tools to organize?

Start with wondering why people treat packing cubes like they're going to solve world hunger. They're just little bags to keep socks separate, not some life changing hack. I still use ziplocs for toiletries and underwear because they're cheap and I can toss them when they get gross. Packing cubes are fine if you want to feel fancy but they won't stop your shirts from wrinkling if you overstuff your bag. People need to calm down and realize organization doesn't fix overpacking.

Doesn't overpacking just mean you bought cubes that are too big for your bag?
