My sister told me my packing cubes were a waste of space on our trip to Savannah.

I switched to just rolling clothes tightly and using my shoes as organizers, and I actually fit in an extra pair of jeans. Has anyone else ditched the cubes after getting similar feedback?

I stopped using packing cubes after a trip to Denver. I found I could fit way more by just folding things flat and using the empty spaces inside my boots for socks. Now my whole system is just rolled t-shirts and jeans at the bottom of the bag.

Actually swore by packing cubes for years, thought they were the only way to stay organized. Then I tried the flat fold method on a long trip and it was a game changer. You really do get more space when you're not locked into those little fabric boxes. The boot thing is genius for small items, I use my shoes for chargers now. My whole packing style changed after one trip where the cubes just made everything bulky.

Honestly @thomasm41, that boot trick is pretty smart. I tried rolling everything for a while but ended up with a bag full of wrinkled tubes. My move now is folding pants flat across the bottom and using the side pockets for underwear and belts, which keeps things from getting all mixed up.
