My carry-on went from a disaster to fitting in 10 minutes after I flipped one thing
Two weeks ago I was fighting my bag at 5am in a hotel in Dallas, sitting on it to get the zipper closed, and I nearly missed my flight. Last weekend I packed the same 8 days of clothes in 10 minutes flat with zero wrestling. The only thing I changed was laying everything flat and folding it over once instead of rolling each item tight. Rolls felt compact but left all these dead gaps along the sides of the bag, and stacks just slide in and fill it edge to edge. Has anyone else ditched rolling completely, or am I going to regret this on a longer trip?
Oh man, the 5am hotel room bag fight is so real, I have totally been there sitting on a suitcase in some random city praying the zipper holds. I feel you on the dead gaps too, rolling always looked so neat and tidy but then the sides of my bag were just wasted space. I switched to flat folding a couple years ago and never went back, and honestly the sliding stacks bugged me at first but now I just tuck a belt or socks down the edges to fill the gaps. For a longer trip you might need to do a mix, like flat fold the shirts and pants but roll the undies and socks to stuff in the corners. Ten minutes with no wrestling sounds like a win to me, enjoy it.
