Just realized I was rolling my clothes all wrong for carry-on

My buddy who travels for work every week saw me packing for a 4 day trip last month and laughed. He said I was making those tight little logs when I should be doing flat folds that stack like bricks. I tried his way for a quick weekend in Denver and fit 3 extra shirts in my bag no problem. The trick is to lay everything flat and stack it like a lasagna instead of rolling individual burritos. Now I can squeeze in a second pair of boots without checking a bag. Anyone else get called out for their packing method before?

Flat folds really are the way to go for maximizing space in a carry on, especially when you need to fit in those bulky items like boots. That lasagna layering method is genius because it lets you press out all the air between layers so nothing shifts around during the flight. Once you switch from rolling burritos to making a packing lasagna, you'll never look back at those tight little logs again.

Hold up, have you actually tried rolling your clothes tight enough? I feel like when I roll things right, I can squish way more into the corners and weird gaps of my bag. Flat folding always leaves me with empty space at the bottom where the layers don't quite line up with my toiletries or shoes. Plus, my jeans end up with a crease right down the front that looks awful after a 6 hour flight. Rolling keeps everything wrinkle-free and I can stuff socks inside my shoes to save even more room.
