I finally ditched my checked bag after a zipper blowout in Denver
Last month my big suitcase zipper gave out at Denver airport, dumping socks and a shampoo bottle onto the carpet. I spent 20 minutes cramming everything into my carry-on while people stared. That moment made me realize I don't need half the stuff I pack anyway. Now I just roll my clothes tight and use a packing cube for toiletries. Has anyone else had a bag fail mid trip and switch to carry-on only?

Man, I feel this so hard. @leo603 is probably right about that secret luggage fund, I swear they hire people to test zippers. When my bag blew out in Phoenix last year, I learned that rolling clothes tight in packing cubes really does save space. Losing that big checked bag made me realize I was just hoarding clothes for no reason. Now I stick to a solid carry-on with a couple of emergency zip ties in the side pocket just in case something breaks mid trip. It also helps that I wash my t-shirts in the sink at hotels instead of bringing extras for every single day.

Did you check if that shampoo bottle was a decoy from the TSA agent who moonlights as a baggage saboteur? My bag's zipper gave out in Chicago and now I'm convinced the airline has a secret "bust your luggage" fund. Honestly though, carry-on only is the real power move once you accept that "just in case" items are mostly a trap.
