Hot take: I called compression packing cubes a gimmick for 2 years, then one saved me on a Ryanair flight to Dublin
Stuffed 9 days of clothes into one $18 set from Amazon after the gate agent in Dublin said my bag was 3cm too deep for the sizer, and it fit with room for my charger, so now I want to know if anyone else has tried the vacuum ones or if they just pop open on day two.

Ha, vacuum ones are a trap, they hold fine going out but the seal gives up once you're moving between places and you're stuck with a deflated mess. Just stick with the roll-up compression ones, they don't need a pump and they never quit on you.
