Don't buy compression cubes for trips shorter than 10 days
Spent $35 on those eagle creek compression cubes for a 5 day trip to Denver last month. Total waste. You cram everything in but then you gotta unpack and re-pack just to find your socks. They take up more space than they save when you don't have enough clothes to actually compress. For a weekender or a 4 night trip, just roll your stuff. You'll fit more in a standard carry-on without the extra bulk. Has anyone else found a use for these things on short trips or am I just doing it wrong?

Are you packing more than just clothes in those cubes? Because I tried using them on a short trip too and realized the problem wasn't the cubes, it was that I was stuffing them with bulky hoodies and jeans that didn't compress well. The real trick with compression cubes is you need soft, thin fabrics like t-shirts and underwear to actually get them flat. If you're throwing in a denim jacket or thick sweatshirt, you're better off just laying those flat in the bottom of your bag. For a 5 day trip, I actually use mine to separate dirty laundry from clean stuff, which cuts down on the digging around you mentioned. It's not about saving space on short trips, it's about staying organized so you don't have to unpack everything just to find one thing. Did you try rolling your clothes before putting them in the cubes, or did you just shove them in loose?
