Caught myself stuffing a jacket into my carry-on at the gate and realized my whole packing method was backwards

I was at Denver airport last month trying to shove a puffer jacket into an already full bag when a flight attendant said just wear it. That moment I realized I had been cramming my bulkier items into the bag instead of putting them on my body. Has anyone else had that lightbulb moment where you changed how you distribute weight?

Oh man, that flight attendant basically saved you. I had the exact same thing happen but with a pair of boots. I was trying to cram some heavy winter boots into my backpack and it was just ruining my whole setup. Now I just wear them on the plane, even if it looks a little goofy walking through security. It frees up so much space in your bag for smaller stuff like toiletries or a tablet. Honestly it's like a whole new way of packing, you stop fighting with your bag and just let your body do the heavy lifting.

I wore two pairs of shoes on a flight once and tripped over my own feet boarding the plane.
