Trick for stretching carpet near doorways without a power stretcher
I kept getting loose spots by doorways where a power stretcher won't fit. Started using a knee kicker with a small piece of 1/4 inch plywood under it to distribute the force. It grabs the carpet way better than just the kicker alone. Has anyone else found a solid workaround for tight spots near jambs?

The rubber shelf liner trick works okay but it wears out fast and slides around after a few pushes. Plywood is way more stable and wont peel off mid stretch. Just be careful not to scratch up the jamb with the wood edge. A thin piece of felt taped to the plywood edge solves that problem. No need to overthink this. Keep it simple and use what holds tight.

Duct taping a 2x2 chunk of that rubber non-slip shelf liner to the bottom of your knee kicker pad works better than plywood for doorways since it grips the backing without scratching the jambs.
