That cheap seam iron I bought on Amazon actually works better than my $200 one
Been installing carpet for about 8 years now. Picked up a no-name seam iron for $35 off Amazon just as a backup tool. My old one started acting up during a job in Columbus last Tuesday. Pulled out the cheap one thinking I'd have to fight with it. Thing heated up in under a minute and held temp way steadier than my expensive one. Been using it for three weeks straight now. Anybody else find a cheap tool that outdid the pricey version?

Oh come on, @samf95, you're making this sound like some deep life lesson when it's just a hot glue stick situation. I've been burned by cheap tools too many times to get all sentimental. Bought a $40 grinder off Amazon once and it vibrated so bad my hands went numb after ten minutes. Meanwhile, my buddy's Milwaukee runs smooth as butter for three times the price. So yeah, maybe you got lucky with that seam iron, but I'm not ready to crown cheap gear as the unsung hero just yet.

That cheap tool thing reminds me how often the simple stuff ends up being the real workhorses in life.
