Serious question about using a seaming iron on double glue jobs

I had a guy at the supply house in Wichita tell me last Tuesday to never use a seaming iron on double glue down installations. He said the heat will soften the glue underneath and cause the seam to bubble up later. I went ahead and did it my usual way anyway because I have been setting seams with the iron for 20 years. Well now I have a call back on a 400 square foot office where three seams are showing ripples just 4 days later. So maybe he was right after all. But here is the thing, I know other guys who use the iron on double glue every single day and swear it works fine. Is the trick something about how long you let the glue set up before seaming? Has anyone else dealt with this kind of ripple issue after a double glue job?

400 square feet is a pretty small office for that kind of callback to show up that fast. I'm surprised you didn't catch it when you were getting paid the first time.

Yeah, smaller offices teach you real quick to spot those red flags early.
