Rant: The living room carpet I put in last year looks like a different planet now

Installed a nice beige plush in a house in Phoenix, and after just one summer with two big dogs and a kid, it's matted down and stained in a wild pattern. The homeowner admitted they never ran the AC below 80 to save money, so the heat just baked the fibers. What's the most destroyed you've seen a new carpet get in under 12 months?

It's part of a whole thing where we just accept slightly broken stuff. My toaster only browns on one side, half the streetlights are out, and yeah, every carpet has at least one weird bump or stain. We're all just living in a world of minor defects.
