Old foreman said my seams were popping because I wasn't leaving a 1/8 inch gap at every wall

After 5 years of blaming bad glue, I finally tried his method on a 12x15 living room job in Phoenix and the seams laid flat for the first time, anyone else fight with stretch and release on heavy Berber?

12x15 isn't exactly a big room, could just be the glue finally cured right or the temp was better in Phoenix that day.

I read somewhere that Berber's closed loops just don't have the same give as cut pile. Makes sense that the gap would matter a whole lot more.
