Ngl, I found a whole cat skeleton under a pad in a house in Dayton
Honestly, I was tearing out this old shag carpet in a 1970s ranch last month. Pulled up the padding in the back bedroom and there it was, a complete little cat skeleton just laid out flat. The homeowner went pale and said 'So that's where Mr. Whiskers went in '98.' We just stared at it for a solid minute. I carefully wrapped it in some scrap felt and the lady decided to bury it in her garden. Has anyone else pulled up something that wasn't nails or tack strips?

That "complete little cat skeleton" thing is wild. It's crazy how houses just swallow things whole and keep them for decades. Makes you wonder what else is hiding in plain sight.

Did you ever figure out if it escaped from a neighbor or if it was a wild one? Back when I lived in an old house with my folks, we had a garter snake show up in the basement and we just let it be for a while. Turns out it was a lost pet from two doors down, and the guy was all worried sick about it for weeks. If you still have the snake or know someone who does, check local lost pet pages on Facebook or call a couple reptile rescues, they can usually help ID the species. Snakes are surprisingly good at hiding and surviving for a long time without being seen, so the cat skeleton thing makes total sense to me. Hope you found a good home for it or at least didn't step on it in the dark!
