The week my domino joiner saved a job that was 4 days behind
Last month I had a built-in bookcase gig in Portland that was tanking hard, the face frames were fighting me and my miters kept opening up like a bad mouth. On day 3 I finally gave up on the table saw for the tenons and grabbed the Domino I almost sold twice. Knocked out all 18 joints in an hour and a half, and the whole unit squared up in one go. Client came by and said it looked like it grew there, which was weird since they'd been emailing me daily about being late. Anyone else have a tool you nearly ditched that ended up bailing you out of a nightmare week? What was your closest call with going old school and regretting it?

....because I had the exact same thing happen with my biscuit joiner, but the weird part is I never even wanted the thing. My uncle gave it to me when he retired and it sat in a drawer for like two years. Then I had this kitchen cabinet job where every single panel was supposed to be flush and nothing was lining up. I was about to rip everything apart and start over with dowels when I remembered that dusty case. Took me twenty minutes to figure out how to set the depth right but once I did, man, it was like the whole job just clicked into place. The weird thing is I still don't really love using it, it feels like a toy compared to a real mortiser, but now I keep it in my truck just in case. I think half the battle with these tools is just fighting off your own pride about the old ways.
