That rainy Tuesday where everything clicked on a stair stringer

Had a brutal week fighting a spiral stair rebuild, but last Tuesday I finally got the stringer angles right by switching to a full-scale story pole instead of my speed square. Cost me an extra hour of layout time but saved a full day of recuts and cussing. Anybody else swear by story poles on curved work, or am I just old school?

Switched to a story pole on a curved landing about 6 years back and never went back to the square for that kind of work. Took me 3 tries on a 14 riser job before I gave up fighting the speed square. That extra hour of layout is nothing compared to redoing treads that don't land right.
