Talked to an old timer at the lumber yard yesterday and he made me feel like a rookie

He told me I was spending too much time on miters when I should just use a coping saw for baseboards, and honestly it hit me hard because I've been fighting with gaps for 10 years. Anyone else have a pro drop some simple advice that made you question everything you thought you knew?

...and that's the thing, man. It's humbling but also kind of a relief when someone just points out you've been making it harder than it needs to be. I had a trim carpenter show me the same trick with a coping saw about five years ago and I felt like an idiot for all those years of fighting with caulk and shims. But that's the kind of wisdom you can't get from a YouTube video or a book, it's just passed down from someone who's been there. Take his advice and run with it, your baseboards will thank you.
