Question about sharpening chisels on a jobsite in Tulsa after my dado came out 1/16 inch off
Two Saturdays back I was cutting dadoes in oak for a built in shelf in Tulsa and every single one came out 1/16 inch too wide. I blamed my router jig for an hour before my helper picked up my 3/4 inch chisel and said the edge was rounded over like a butter knife. I had been honing on a worn out 1000 grit stone for who knows how long and never once checked it with a straightedge. Bought a granite tile and some wet dry paper, lapped the stone flat, and the very next dado fit tight enough to need a mallet. Anyone else catch themselves blaming the tool when it was really just a dull edge the whole time?
