My old man's 25 foot tape finally gave out on a job in Tulsa

The spring in my dad's Stanley tape snapped last Tuesday while I was marking studs on a garage frame in Tulsa. He carried that thing for 22 years and I got maybe 6 months out of it before the blade stopped retracting. I tried bending the spring back but it just kinked worse, so I finished the layout with a cheap backup and a chalk line. Anyone got a tape that actually holds up past a year of daily use?
