Had to choose between a flush trim bit and a pattern bit for a kitchen job last Tuesday

I was routing a 40-inch countertop edge for a laminate install and couldn't decide which bit would give me the cleanest cut without tearout. Went with the flush trim because it's what I've always used, but the bearing left a slight groove I had to sand out. Anyone else found pattern bits work better for certain laminates?

40 inch countertop? You routed a 40 inch laminate top with a handheld router? That's insane, I'd never try that without a table or jig.

Handheld is fine if you take your time and use a good bit.
