Had a concrete guy in Birmingham point out I was mixing my mortar too wet for brickwork

You ever tried buttering a brick with soup consistency? That's basically what you get when mortar's too wet. The brick just slides right off the trowel. I keep mine so it holds a shape when you squeeze it in your hand but still crumbles easy. Let it sit for ten minutes after mixing to let the lime do its thing too.
