Finally got my miter saw setup dialed in after 8 years of fighting it
I used to just set my miter saw on a rickety old workbench and hope for the best. Cuts were always off by a hair and I'd spend forever adjusting. Last month I built a proper stand with wings and an extended fence using some scrap plywood. First time I cut a 16-foot piece of baseboard in one go without it drifting felt like magic. Anyone else have a tool setup that took way too long to get right?

I gotta respectfully push back on that "feels like magic" part. I've been down that road and honestly, a plywood stand with wings sounds like it could still flex a little under a 16 footer. In my experience, even a tiny bit of bow in the wings throws everything off, especially with long stock. I tried a homemade setup for years and finally gave up, got one of those cheap folding metal stands with adjustable rollers. It's nothing fancy but it's rock solid and my cuts actually stayed consistent. Your mileage may vary, but I'd wait a few months before calling it dialed in.

Oh man, that's a good point about flex. Did you go with one of those metal stands with the telescoping arms or the simpler folding kind with just a single roller?
