Blew $80 on a laser level that couldn't handle direct sunlight

Bought one of those self-leveling green beam lasers from a big box store last month. Took it to a deck job in full sun and could barely see the line past 6 feet. What do you guys use for outdoor work that actually works in bright conditions?

Try using a rotary laser with a detector instead.

The Bosch GRL4000 or the Huepar ones work great for that. Just make sure the detector is calibrated to the laser before you start your layout.
