Update: I thought those 'cold email' courses were a total scam

For years, I saw those ads promising six figures from sending emails. Figured it was all fake. Then my buddy in Austin, who does tech sales, showed me his numbers. He made a $12,000 commission from one email chain he started. The trick wasn't spamming. It was finding a real problem a company had, like their old software being slow, and sending one clear note about it. He spent maybe 2 hours researching first. I tried his method for my own consulting gig. Sent 20 emails last month. Got 3 replies and one call that turned into a client. It's not magic, but it's not a scam either if you do the work. Anyone else have a specific cold email tip that actually gets people to write back?

My buddy got a crazy open rate last week just by putting "Saw this about [Competitor]" in the subject. Worked like a charm.
