The moment I realized I was applying to jobs with a generic resume for 8 months straight
Last Tuesday, a recruiter friend looked at my resume and said 'this tells me nothing about what you actually did at your last job' and I finally understood why I wasn't getting callbacks.

But isnt that kind of the point? If you tailor your resume for every single job you're basically just writing cover letters over and over again.

Wait, is it really that different though? I used to swear by the one-size-fits-all resume, but then @ivanb41 got me thinking. I changed up my resume for a single job last month, swapped out a few bullet points to match their posting, and I actually got a callback. Now I'm wondering if I've been doing it wrong this whole time. It feels like more work but maybe that's the price of standing out in a pile of 200 apps.

Man I feel you on this one. Three years ago I applied to 15 different marketing gigs in one month, and by the 8th one I was just copy-pasting bullet points and swapping the company names. It's so draining trying to be "strategic" for every single application when half the time the hiring manager doesnt even read past the first few lines anyway. I think most people just tweak a couple keywords and call it a day, not write a whole new resume each time.
