The day my manager called my 'firefighting' a problem

He pulled me aside last Tuesday and said, 'You jump on every urgent task, but your core projects are slipping.' It was a bad week because I realized my best skill at my actual job (I'm a data analyst) was actually hurting my career growth. Anyone else get praised for being a fixer only to have it backfire later?

Yeah, been there more times than I'd like to admit. It's a rough spot to be in.

What's the hardest part when you're in that spot? For me it was always the mornings, waking up and feeling that heavy dread before even getting out of bed. Just a total lack of energy to face the day.
