That Monday where I got a raise, lost a client, and spilled coffee on my boss in one hour

So last month I walk into the morning meeting feeling pretty good... and my boss calls me out of the blue to say I'm getting a 5% raise for landing that big account. I'm on cloud nine, right? Then not ten minutes later, that same client emails saying they're dropping us because of a pricing dispute. My boss is standing there staring at me, I go to shake his hand and my travel mug tips right over onto his white shirt. He just laughed somehow and said 'well, at least you're consistent.' Has anyone else had a day where everything good and bad hit at the same time?

I mean it's weird how life just seems to do that sometimes, like it can't let you have a win without pulling the rug out from under you too. Maybe it's just me but I've noticed that whenever something good happens, it's like the universe has to balance it out with something annoying or embarrassing right away. Like you get that raise and suddenly your whole morning turns into a circus act with coffee and clients and everything. It makes me wonder if we're all just part of some big cosmic joke where the punchline is always a little messy. Sounds like your boss at least gets it though, which is probably the best part of that whole hour.

5%? That's it? They gave you a 5% raise for landing a big account? That seems low man, especially if you're the one who brought in the client. You'd think they'd throw you at least 10 or 15 for bringing in actual business. Then the same client drops you over pricing ten minutes later? That's wild. Your company must be running some tight margins if a pricing dispute kills the deal that fast.
