I used to think you had to stay at a job for at least two years, but a recruiter in Austin changed my mind

Oh man, my buddy left a job after six months for a huge raise... totally changed how I see things now.

People are waking up to the fact that staying at a place just to avoid looking bad is a pretty empty strategy. It's like how everyone used to stay in a bad relationship just because they'd been together for years, now it's more about what actually makes sense for you. Your buddy's friend saw an opportunity and took it, that's the real pattern now. Smart people are realizing that loyalty to a company that won't remember you in five years means way less than betting on yourself. Time is too short to stay stuck somewhere that isn't helping you move forward.

Remember the two-year rule was mostly about avoiding a bad look on your resume. Seeing what happened with @emery_hall's friend shows it's more about your own growth path now. If a new role makes sense for your career, the old timeline doesn't really matter.
