I used to think job hopping every 18 months was the only way to get a raise.
For the first 5 years of my career, I'd switch companies like clockwork, chasing a 15% pay bump each time. Then I got a job at a tech firm in Denver where my boss actually talked about a 3-year growth plan for me. I stayed for 4 years, got two big promotions, and my total pay went up way more than all my jumps combined. The old way got me quick cash, but staying put built real skills and trust that paid off bigger. Has anyone else found that sticking around in one place actually worked out better for them in the long run?

Building real trust lets you get the big, messy projects that actually grow your career.

Yeah, my friend got handed this huge, broken client account last year because her boss knew she wouldn't hide the bad news. She spent months just fixing their data, calling them every week even when it was ugly. Now that client asks for her by name for everything, and she's basically running that whole side of the business. It was all because they trusted her to handle the mess.
