I finally spoke up about a bad manager and it backfired in a way I didn't expect

Last month, my old head chef at a spot in Austin pulled me aside after a busy shift. He said, 'You're a good cook, but you'll never be a leader if you keep asking for help.' I was just trying to make sure the new guy on salads was set up right. That single comment made me freeze up and second-guess every move for weeks. Has anyone else had a boss make you feel wrong for trying to help the team?

That "you'll never be a leader" line is such a cheap shot. I read something once about how good bosses build people up, not make them scared to pitch in. Yours sounds like the opposite.

Yeah, bettyl37, sounds like my boss went to the same bad school of management.
