Heard my manager say "we don't pay for loyalty" and it hit me different

I was grabbing coffee last week at the office kitchen and overheard my manager talking to another supervisor. She straight up said "we don't pay for loyalty, we pay for results" like it was nothing. Made me realize all those late nights and extra shifts I put in last year don't mean squat to them. I'm not saying you should half- but it really changed how I view putting the company first. Has anyone else heard something at work that made you rethink your whole approach?

Last year I calculated I did 47 hours of unpaid overtime and got a $0.50 raise, so I feel this in my bones. Once you realize they see your effort as just meeting the bar, it changes how much extra you're willing to give for free. Keep doing your job well but start treating your time like it actually costs them something.

47 hours is nothing in the grand scheme of things. People act like showing up and doing the bare minimum is some kind of victory, but real careers are built on going the extra mile. That 50 cent raise is probably just the start if you keep pushing.
